GALLERY TALK – The Sissiboo Six – Six Artists on Residency on the Bay of Fundy

The word “Sissiboo” is an adaption of the French and Mi’kmaq words for six owls and river. Named by explorers, when six owls were spotted together in shoreline timber, the Sissiboo River runs through Weymouth, Nova Scotia where the Maine College of Art & Design offers a team residency to its alum.

Sonoma County Painter, Mary Vaughan, a MECA & D Alum, spent all of July 2025 with 5 artists of her choosing. Vaughan invites you to hear the group talk about their experiences on the Bay of Fundy on Saturday, Feb 7 at 11am. Their Residency Show based on the region opened on Feb 6 and this Feb 7 Art Talk at Backstreet Gallery in Santa Rosa, just down Art Alley near 312 South A, will bring delightful insights to art and what it meant to have time and quietude to create with a chosen team of makers across her art life. The group of 6 are from NE, CA, TN and IL.

The Sissiboo Six Exhibit continues all month at Backstreet – only Open on Weekends in Feb from 11am to 4pm, which also includes one final gallery day, Sunday, March 1, 11am to 4pm. We hope you will join us for our talk or simply come over on a Weekend to see the show.

Both Friday Cafe and Red Bird Bakery on our Arts Block just behind Juillard Park are open on Saturdays from 8 am to 2pm if you want to come down for breakfeast beforehand or lunch after our 11am to Noon Art Talk.
