How it works: Every half hour, our Shuttle will leave from either Sugarloaf Ridge State Park's Visitor Center, making a brief stop at the Goodspeed parking lot, or Hood Mountain Regional Park’s Pythian Rd parking lot (with a brief stop at the equestrian lot). Make a reservation to ride to the other end of the trail and begin your hike, or hike and ride back. We recommend riding first and hiking back to your car afterward—no worries about how long you take to finish your adventure. The hike should take 3½ to 4½ hours; the distance is about 7.4 miles one-way with approximately 2,300ft of elevation gain. Bring at least 64 oz of water and sun protection, as the majority of the trail is exposed. If you are riding from Sugarloaf, the Goodspeed lot fills up quickly. If it is full, please park at the main lot and pick up the shuttle at the Visitor Center (you will have to hike a mile back to the main lot from the bottom of the canyon/Goodspeed lot). If the Hood Mt. Pythian Lot is full, please park at the Equestrian Lot, by the Hood House, in Los Guilicos. Registration is required as there is only space for 5 riders at a time, but you can ride on a space-available basis as well. There is no charge for the ride, the $10 reservation fee is refunded on site the day of the event, unless you choose to donate it to keep this service running. Dogs and bikes are not allowed in the shuttle or on Goodspeed Trail (the State Park portion of the hiking route). Parking fees apply.

Did you know that both California and Sonoma Valley are biodiversity hotspots? As many as a quarter of California’s species exist in this compact area, a place that comprises only a tenth of 1% of California’s entire land area! Join us this during this California Biodiversity Week in a bioblitz focused on the birds of Sugarloaf along parts of the Hillside, Creekside, and Lower Bald trails. Meet at the White Barn. This free event requires registration, as it is limited to 12 participants. We will be using apps such as Merlin and iNaturalist to document spotted species. If you haven’t used iNaturalist, or haven’t made an observation for a while, this is your chance – just make sure to load the iNaturalist app on your phone before you head out to the park and that your device is fully charged. Participants of any level of experience or mobility can help find, photograph, and/or identify life in the park. Join or view our iNaturalist project here! This event is part of California Biodiversity Week along with others hosted from September 6-14. Throughout this week, individuals, communities, and organizations will host in-person and virtual events to inspire discovery of our state’s remarkable nature, while encouraging everyday actions to protect and steward it. View the power of community science in action!
